Purnell's "Old Folks"® Country Sausage is made the way our Daddy taught us—from the good cuts, and seasoned just right. We thank you for buying Purnell's products.

How "Old Folks"® Got Its NameBecause he liked to sit and listen to old folks talk, a Tennessee farm boy became known as "Old Folks"... that was our daddy, Fred B. Purnell, who, as a young man went to work in Nashville for the railroad. He was a steam engine mechanic. "Old Folks" had been accustomed to his family's homemade country sausage and found there was none available in the city, so he started making his own in the fall of 1932, using the best cuts of pork. These were ground and combined with just the right blend of salt, sage, and pepper. When packing his lunch box for work, he would take leftover biscuits from the breakfast table to go with his own "Purnell" sausage. Once he shared his lunch with a helper who enjoyed it so much he offered to buy sausage from him. That popular lunch box started Fred and his wife, Clara Purnell in making old fashioned country sausage as 'business'. In 1994 "Old Folks" gave up his job with the railroad because of a disability and the making of sausage from his special recipe became a full-time family business. Now in its 4th generation, the business that Daddy and Mamma started with his popular lunch box is still growing... thanks to customers like you and gooo-od sausage like Daddy taught us to make.Thank you for buying our products!!!
